SweetArt Katrina Fund
$100,000 for Gulf Coast artists

The Contemporary Arts Center is pleased to announce a new round of grants for the SweetArt Katrina Fund. Artists who suffered losses from or were adversely affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita are eligible to apply. Funds for the grant are generated by the annual SweetArt New York benefit, conceived of and executed by volunteer chairmen Alexa Georges and Sarah Bacon.

Other criteria include evidence of work as a professional artist and a commitment to living and working in the Gulf Coast area. "Our hope is that this will help artists to get back to the business of creating art in New Orleans and surrounding areas," states Alexa Georges, a New Orleanian who evacuated to New York following Hurricane Katrina. Georges and New Yorker Sarah Bacon conceived of the idea when they first realized the magnitude of the damage. "New Yorkers feel a real empathy for the victims of Katrina and Rita because of 9/11 and we wanted to do everything in our power to help," relates Bacon.

To apply for a grant of up to $3,000 from the SweetArt Katrina Fund please download the SweetArt Katrina Fund Application and submit it to the CAC at the address noted in the application. A committee will review applications to ensure fair and equitable disbursement of funds to artists as quickly as possible.

The deadline for applications is November 30, 2007.
