Finding Your Audience: A Guide to Marketing Your Creative Photography

The New Orleans Photo Alliance, in collaboration with the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP), is pleased to present Mary Virginia Swanson's "Finding Your Audience: A Guide to Marketing Your Creative Photography." This lecture will provide artists with a roadmap to getting their work in front of those with whom they most wish to share it. The value of entering juried competitions and maximizing one's investment in attending art fairs and portfolio review events will be discussed as well as effective promotional materials to keep in touch with those on your mailing list. Lastly, the benefits of a multimedia presence today will be discussed, within a broader discussion about new markets for photographers.

Swanson has made it her goal to help guide photographers towards the strengths in their work and to identify appreciative audiences for their prints, exhibitions, editorial and licensing placement. She has a diverse professional background having coordinated educational, publication, and exhibition programs for a wide range of institutions and businesses in the photographic field. She maintains a popular blog about marketing photographs at: marketingphotos.wordpress.com/.

Tickets: $20 for New Orleans Photo Alliance, ASMP, and CAC members. $25 general admission.

To purchase tickets: visit the CAC (900 Camp St.) from 11am-4pm; or call the CAC Box Office at 528-3800. On day of show, tickets can also be purchased in person from 11 a.m. to one-half hour after curtain.

Freeport-McMoRan's "Artists For a Day"

Research has shown that learners can attain higher levels of achievement through their exposure to the arts. Freeport-McMoRan's "Artists For a Day" program helps to foster arts education for elementary, middle school and high school students.

"Artists For a Day" is an outstanding field trip opportunity available for school groups and youth organizations. During each AFD, students encounter an exciting journey through the Contemporary Arts Center as "artists for a day" while learning from professional New Orleans artists. Skills learned during the classes in drama, dance, music, visual arts and creative writing can be integrated into core subjects of math, science, language and social studies or students can just experience the fun of learning something new. All participants come away with a sense of accomplishment and newly discovered skills.

Field trip hours are from 9:30am to 1:00pm, though this is flexible. Participants are asked to bring a lunch to eat on the premises. The cost is $6 per student.
