Nimbus (detail)

The Contemporary Arts Center is pleased to present Nimbus, the 2008 Collectors Club print by Chris Jahncke. The 22" x 30" limited edition silkscreen print was created exclusively for members of the CAC.

Chris Jahncke was born in New Orleans in 1972. He received his BFA from the Atlanta College of Art in painting and drawing in 1996 and his MFA from the University of New Orleans in 2000, where he was awarded a Louisiana State Fellowship. In 2006, Chris was awarded a Pollock Krasner Foundation Grant and a Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant.

Jahncke has exhibited his work both nationally and internationally. In 2006, he was selected for two biennials: the Louisiana Biennial 2005-2006 at the Contemporary Arts Center, and Homegrown, a biennial at the South Eastern Center for Contemporary Art in Winston Salem, North Carolina. Jahncke has participated in numerous selected exhibitions, including the Bergdorf Goodman Exhibition hosted by Giorgio Armani in New York, the Inner Garden Exhibition at the ISE Cultural Foundation in New York, as well as exhibitions at Jonathan Ferrara Gallery and Arthur Roger Gallery in New Orleans. He has had solo exhibitions at the Federico Luger Gallery in Milan, the Ambrosino Gallery in Miami, and at the CAC. He currently divides his time between New Orleans and New York.

On Nimbus:

"I picked up a pen and immediately started a system of lines that grew outwards in layers, filling the entire page, implying a sort of infinite cosmos. The concentration is on process and effect, without focusing on anything specific. It relates to things I find intriguing, such as stellar activity, neurons, and microbiology, but only in the analogous way that the hand moves when drawing. In all honesty, I would say I make many of these drawings when I want to stop thinking and just draw. To me, the end result has a tension between the optical and psychological effect, which is both seductive and ominous at the same time."
