Whats on display?

With new ideas of the 21st Century, the Contemporary Arts Center New Orleans is reimagining its relationship to art, audiences and artists.  Our exhibitions, presentations, public programs and performances will foster seedling artists, collaborate with featured artists and make room for arts of the 21st century in the spaces in between. On Display currently are two exhibitions: Sorbet and Proximity in our First Floor Gallery with works by Ron Bechet, DiQuan Forcell, Chris Leaux, Irvin Washington, Jr., and Gabrielle Tolliver.  In our Second Floor Gallery, there are three Iconic installations by Mel Chin, Jan Gilbert & Kathy Randels, and the work of Carlie Trosclair.

January Activations

Sensei Saturdays

Bringing creativity to our little artists! Join us from 11am–1pm on January 24, February 28, and March 14 & 21, 2026 for a joyful 90 minute session of art-making just for kids under 10.

Inspired by Sensei, the CACNO’s youngest regular visitor, each session starts with a fun chat about an art genre, then kids jump in and create their own masterpieces using simple, kid-friendly materials. Guided by an “Artist of the Day”, children explore, play, and make art just for fun. Free in the CACNO Lobby. Limited to 10 children. Fiirst come, first served!

OFFICE HOURS & OPEN STUDIO

Rooted in history and energized by what’s ahead, CACNO invites New Orleans artists to visit the Arts Center not to perform, but simply to spend time in the space and be in dialogue.

Through quiet site visits, informal tours, readings, and one-on-one conversations with the newly appointed director, artists are welcomed to explore the gallery, share their work, and imagine future possibilities together. These quieter moments help build ease, understanding, and connection.

OFFICE HOURS, part of SORBET: A Palette Cleanser, reopens dialogue across all aesthetics. Sign up for a half-hour meet-and-greet (first come, first served) and envision work of the CACNO for the next 50 years.
