The Contemporary Arts Center New Orleans (CAC) will present Idyll: Pleasures of Summer, a group exhibition featuring 24 artists whose work explores the many ways summer is lived and remembered. On view August 1 through September 29, 2026, across the CAC's First and Second Floor Galleries, the exhibition considers what happens when routine gives way to presence.
Rather than presenting a single image of the season, Idyll: Pleasures of Summer embraces many experiences of summer — found in city neighborhoods, quiet backyards, parks, gardens, and along the water. Through both figurative and abstract work, the artists reflect on freedom, identity, family, community, and belonging as they unfold in everyday life.
In a world that often values speed over stillness, moments of pause have become increasingly rare. While summer has long been associated with leisure, its greatest gift may be the permission it gives us to spend time differently. Art allows us to hold onto these moments, reminding us of experiences that often pass too quickly. Seen together, the works in this exhibition reveal that there is no single way to experience summer, only many ways of living it.
